Banana Foster’s is a simple and delicious sauce to make for the family. Serve it over pancakes for a great breakfast item or over vanilla ice cream for a perfect dessert.

Ingredients

  • Banana Foster’s Sauce
  • ¼ cup butter

  • ⅔ cup dark brown sugar

  • 3 3  ½ tablespoons rum

  • 1 1  ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 3 3 bananas, peeled and sliced lengthwise and crosswise

  • 1 pint 1 vanilla ice cream

  • ¼ cup coarsely chopped walnuts (optional)

  • Buttermilk Pancakes
  • 1 cup 1 flour

  • 1 teaspoon 1 salt

  • 1 teaspoon 1 baking soda

  • 1 1 egg

  • 1 1  ⅛ cups buttermilk

  • 2 tablespoons 2 butter, melted

Instructions

  • Banana Foster’s Sauce
  • In a large, deep skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in sugar, rum, vanilla and cinnamon. When mixture begins to bubble, place bananas and walnuts in pan. Cook until bananas are hot, 1 to 2 minutes. Serve at once over vanilla ice cream.
  • Buttermilk Pancakes
  • Preheat and lightly grease a large skillet or electric griddle.
  • Mix the flour, salt, and baking soda together in a bowl. Add the egg, buttermilk, and butter; stir together lightly, but keep it lumpy. The batter should look thick, spongy, and puffy.
  • Drop 1/3 cup of the batter onto the cooking surface, spreading lightly with the bottom of the cup. Cook until lightly-browned on each side, 1 to 2 minutes per side.

Notes

  • Make sauce after the pancakes and serve immediately. Alternately, you can skip the pancakes and serve the banana foster’s with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
